We continue to work to provide spaces for working and socializing within the department for our undergraduate and graduate students. Below are a listing of the spaces in the department for student use.
The Student Lounge is located in Ketchum 322. The lounge is equipped with couches, tables, desks, a microwave, small fridge and coffee pot. The lounge is meant as a social space for all English students--graduate, undergraduate, majors and minors--to relax, socialize, read, eat, etc. Please familiarize yourself with the guidelines for lounge use.
The Buffalo State College English Department Library (BSCEDL) is also located in Ketchum Hall room 322. Students and faculty are encouraged to use the library as a resource and may take books as needed, but are strongly encouraged to return them when finished, keeping in mind future readers. If you are looking for a particular book, the library’s collection can be accessed at www.librarything.com/catalog/BSCEDLibrary.
Books are organized and color coded, currently, into the following categories: novels (blue); plays (red); poetry (green); criticism and anthologies (yellow.)
The library is still under development and donations are highly encouraged from both faculty and students. All book types are welcome, but books taught in English department courses are especially appreciated. Thank you.
The loungebrary is open M-F during normal business hours.
Ketchum 302 has recently been renovated into the Ilene R. Fleischmann Writing and Publication Suite, which will be home to ELJ--Elm Leaves Journal--edited by Associate Professor Kim Chinquee, Co-Director of the Writing Major. The Fleischmann Suite is used as classroom and lab space for the Writing Major.
