The master of arts in English program is designed to provide flexibility in meeting individual student interests while ensuring a broad understanding of the significant areas within the professional study of English. The program builds upon students’ undergraduate work in English by offering the opportunity to study several different areas of concentration in depth. It also serves as an excellent preparatory program for doctoral-level study in English.

Dr. Jennifer Ryan will be on sabbatical in Spring of 2021. Dr. Lorna L. Perez will serve as the interim MA Coordinator for Spring, 2021. Therefore, any questions regarding the MA program, including advisement, should be directed to her at firstname.lastname@example.org. Dr. Ryan will resume her role as the MA Coordinator in Summer of 2021.

NEW Comprehensive Exam format. In Spring 2021, we will transition to the new MA Comprehensive Exam. The new exam is outlined in the navigation bar to the left.
Students who entered the program between 2018 and Fall of 2020 may opt for either the new or the old exam format. Students entering the program in Spring 2021 and later will use the new format.
ALL students must attend one faculty-led meeting on the comprehensive exam.
