Dr. Bard is a Professor of English at Buffalo State as well as Co-Director of Project Flight. She is an accomplished educator, researcher, author, and union activist. Her many accomplishments include: former Visiting Fellow at Harvard University, Buffalo Region Labor Co-Chair of the United Way Campaign and Cabinet Member, and President of the New York State Coalition on Woman’s Issues.

Her many awards include the Governor’s Award for Excellence in Education, The New York State Harriet Tubman Award, The Buffalo News Citizen of the Year Award, the President’s Award for Excellence in Teaching, and the President’s Award in Equity and Diversity from Buffalo State, JC Penney National Volunteer Educator Award, United Way Award for Outstanding Labor Volunteer and the YWCA Leadership Award. She is the founder of the Buffalo’s Annual Women’s History Month Committee and the Western New York Women’s Hall of Fame. She has also received many commendations for her work with Project Flight from federal, state, county, and city governmental leaders, which include recognition from President Clinton and Governor Pataki. Project Flight continues to address the problem of literacy in the community.
