Dr. Keira Hambrick (she/her) is an Assistant Professor of English at SUNY Buffalo State. As a proud first-generation college graduate, she is deeply committed to accessibility, collaboration, inclusion, and mentorship. Throughout her career as an educator and director of both a writing center and an all-subjects tutoring center, Keira has dedicated herself to helping students develop the confidence and skills to succeed. She also actively mentors faculty across the disciplines in scholarly writing and inclusive teaching practices.

Keira has taught a range of courses and topics, including first year writing, technical and professional writing, research methods, grant writing, disability studies, critical reading strategies, tutoring pedagogies, and college success. In the classroom, she works to honor students’ diverse prior knowledge and experiences while creating opportunities to engage in meaningful writing and learning. Her courses feature collaborative and multimodal assignments that align with students’ personal, academic, and professional goals.

As a teacher-scholar, Keira’s work with students and instructors informs her mixed-methods research, which focuses on prior knowledge as a critical intersection among writing studies, the science of learning, and equity-minded pedagogies. By producing practical tools and resources alongside new theories and stances, her scholarly work seeks to make lasting contributions to inclusive and effective writing instruction across various contexts. Her work has been published in Across the Disciplines, Literacy in Composition Studies, Rhetoric Society Quarterly, and in several forthcoming collections on inclusive pedagogy, writing studies research, and learning transfer.
