Peter J. Ramos, Ph.D.

Peter Ramos offers courses in nineteenth- and twentieth-century American literatures within a cross-cultural context. His research covers early to modern American writing and confronts questions in contemporary criticism, fiction, and poetry. He holds a Ph.D. in English from the State University of New York at Buffalo as well as an M.F.A. in creative writing from George Mason University. Peter has published one book of criticism, Poetic Encounters in the Americas: Remarkable Bridge (Routledge Books, 2019), that examines the ways in which U.S. and Latin American modernist canons have been in cross-cultural, mutually enabling conversation, especially through the act of literary translation. He also has critical articles on William Carlos Williams, Kate Chopin, William Faulkner and Toni Morrison, Walt Whitman, Pablo Neruda and Langston Hughes, James Wright and César Vallejo, and contemporary and modern Latin American poetry. He has reviews and other scholarly publications featured in Latino Poetry Review, Angels of the Americlypse: An Anthology of New Latin@ Writing (Eds. Carmen Giménez-Smith and John Chavez, Counterpath Press, 2014) and The Other Latin@: Writing Against a Singular Identity (Eds. Blas Falconer and Lorraine M. López, University of Arizona Press, 2011). 

His poems have appeared in The Cincinnati Review, Colorado Review, Puerto del Sol, Painted Bride Quarterly, Verse, Fugue, Indiana Review, Poet Lore, The Chattahoochee Review, The Mississippi Review (online), Slipstream, Meridian, elimae and other journals. Nominated three times for a Pushcart Prize, Peter is the author of two books of poetry, Please Do Not Feed the Ghost (BlazeVox Books, 2008) and, most recently, Lord Baltimore (Ravenna Press, 2021) as well as three shorter collections.
